As expectations around senior living continue to evolve, design has an opportunity to move beyond traditional care models and create environments that prioritize comfort, choice, and quality of life. 

At CHIL Interior Design, we see an opportunity to bring the principles that have long shaped exceptional hospitality and residential environments into the senior living experience. The question that guided our approach was simple: How can senior living feel less institutional and more like a thoughtfully designed home, enriched by the comfort, amenities, and experiences people seek throughout their lives?

Located in Vancouver, this completed presentation centre offers the first expression of our design vision for an upcoming senior living community. Drawing on our hospitality and residential design expertise, the interiors are inspired by the restorative qualities of a conservatory, blending natural light, layered greenery, warm materials, and residential detailing to create an environment rooted in wellbeing, connection, and everyday comfort.

Our hospitality background informed every aspect of the experience. Rather than focusing solely on care and accommodation, the project provides residents with a rich variety of places to gather, relax, learn, and stay active throughout the day.

The community includes a diverse collection of amenity spaces, from a pool, fitness area, relaxation room, beauty salon, and theatre to multiple dining venues, lounges, a craft kitchen, greenhouse, library, games room, rooftop gardens, and landscaped courtyards. Dedicated activity spaces, seasonal rooms, dining areas, and lounges support both assisted living and memory care residents, helping foster independence while encouraging connection and a sense of belonging.

Importantly, these amenities are not designed as isolated destinations. Together, they create a layered residential experience that allows residents to shape their own daily routines, whether that means enjoying a quiet moment in a serenity room, gathering with family for a private meal, participating in creative activities, or spending time outdoors among gardens and walking paths.

As designers, we believe the future of senior living lies in creating places where people can continue to live fully and independently, surrounded by beauty, comfort, and community. By bringing together lessons from hospitality, residential, and wellness design, we have an opportunity to elevate the experience of aging and create environments that support not only care, but quality of life.

For CHIL, this project marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter and demonstrates how design can help reshape expectations for senior living, creating communities that feel less like facilities and more like home.
